Milford Furniture Store Uses Solar Power

In May of 2008 Pilgrim Furniture announced the opening of our second location Pilgrim Furniture City of Milford.

Mike Albert, owner of Pilgrim Furniture City, planned the new showroom as an example of a sustainable approach to retail sales. Rather than demolish the existing facility, he led a retrofit construction effort to reuse the majority of the existing industrial facility built in the 1950’s. Albert implemented energy efficient lighting and heating techniques, and has planned landscaping to reduce runoff and provide green space. In addition the store received a generous grant from the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund and teamed up with Soltage, Inc. to install the largest solar photovoltaic installation on a commercial showroom in New England! All of these earth friendly techniques make Pilgrim Furniture City one of the most green friendly furniture stores in Connecticut.

We currently have 1500 Solar Panels that are estimate to generate 50-80% of the energy needed to run our showroom. Soltage estimates that 273,000 lbs of carbon dioxide, 180 lbs of sulfur dioxide, and 250 pounds of nitrous oxide will be prevented from polluting the air annually during the lifetime of the Soltage PowerStation. This is equivalent to the electricity consumed by 30 households or taking 23 vehicles off of the road each year.
